All Announcements will be posted below and emailed to students’ Blackboard emails:

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well, and I hope you will be having a restful Spring Break.

I am writing to give you a few updates on our class moving, forward after Spring Break.

Our class will continue with the following calendar adjustments

TU May 10- Discussion – Religion (Wolf, 1958; Mintz & Trouillot, 1995) – LAST CLASS

2- Forums

Those of you that haven’t submitted forums after the Midterm, still have a chance to post.

– I will be receiving forums from the past week -Culture and Economy- in our next class – April 26, 2022.

– You can bring your forum post for Medical Anthropology and Health and Politics and Sports for the class on May 3, 2022.

3- Bonus Assignment – May 3, 2022

I have posted an additional bonus assignment for those of you interested in extra credit.

After watching the documentary “American Fúbol” (2019) – link to documentary available on Blackboard-, respond to the following reflective question:
– What is the relationship between soccer, culture, and politics in Latin America? (American Fútbol, 2019)
You will write a one-page response paper, typed in 12 sized font, single-spaced. This bonus activity will count for 10 extra points.  You will have until May 3, 2022 to submit the extra credit. I will collect the paper during class time.
If you have any questions, feel free to message me, and I will get back to you before we return from Spring Break.
Stay safe, and have a restful break.
Best,
Prof. Torres-González

Dear students,

I hope all is well. Looking forward to seeing you all in class today.

I wanted to touch base with you regarding the New CUNY Masking Policy. I am sending you a message that was forwarded by my Department chair, and I find it appropriate for us to discuss today in class. I am copying verbatim her message, which I support and would like to encourage in our discussion today –

Given the shift in CUNY policies around masking (which has made masks optional on campus as of today), we will need to revisit our class policy on masking together. We will do this first thing tomorrow. Please plan to come to class with a mask on so that we can work together as a group to figure out what is best for us. I can imagine that we will have a range of feelings and attitudes toward continuing to mask and know that we can have a helpful, respectful conversation together about what to do as a class.”

See you all during the evening.

Best,

Prof. Torres-González

Class 3/1/22

Dear students,

I hope you are all doing well. I am writing this message to let you all know that we won’t have class tomorrow. We will resume class on Tuesday March 8th at our regular time. Continue reading and exploring the materials for this week (Biological anthropology), and you can begin whenever you are finished with the materials for next week (Linguistic Anthropology). I will be posting on our class website the questions for next weeks’ short response paper/forum. We will be covering both topics next March 8th. Stay safe, and see you soon.

Best,

Prof. Torres-González
